What if I told you to forget the dream?

Have you seen comedian, Tim Minchin’s speech when he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Western Australia?

If not, make sure you seek it out.

Tim is described as, “sublimely talented, witty, smart, and unabashedly offensive”.

It is hilarious while being thought-provoking.

In the speech, he delivers his 9 life lessons.

The first is you don’t have to have a dream.

That is not usually what I encourage, is it?

The point he makes about not having a dream is when we spend too much time chasing a dream and keep an eye on what is in front of you, we miss out on the shiny objects in our periphery.

He advocates passionate dedication to the pursuit of short-term goals.

I agree.

It is the achievement of the short-term goal that can provide encouragement and motivation to stay the course.

Forget the dream!

“Be micro-ambitious. Put your head down and work with pride on whatever is in front of you, you never know where you might end up.”

Tim Minchin
