What a whirlwind of a week it’s been!

Last weekend, I was honoured to win the National Speech Contest at the POWERtalk Australia Conference in Melbourne after delivering a workshop on boosting virtual communication. Then, straight back into the final preparations for the Logan Charity Golf Day – an incredible day supporting the Mini Farms Project, filled with generosity, laughter, and a wonderful sense of community.

And now, something truly humbling… I’ve been nominated for a Local Business Award, and I’d love your support in voting for me and Speech Perfect (link and QR code in the image).

But this post isn’t about the awards themselves. It’s about what they represent — and why I believe entering business awards, whether you win or not, can be one of the most valuable exercises you can do as a small business owner.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky to be recognised for the work I love doing — including being the 2023 Logan Chamber of Commerce Business to Business Award Winner, and 2024 International Bx Coaching Women Business of the Year. And yes, it feels incredible to have that hard work acknowledged. But more than that, it’s what the process of entering teaches you.

The Benefits of Entering Business Awards: Here’s What I Learned as a Sole Trader…

🔹 Reflection builds clarity – Taking the time to enter an award makes you pause and look at how far you’ve come, what’s working, and where the gaps are. It’s like a business health check we rarely give ourselves permission to do.

🔹 Validation brings motivation – As a sole trader, there’s no team party or performance review. Being recognised externally gives a real sense of “Yes, I am making an impact.”

🔹 Credibility opens doors – Awards can be the social proof that sets you apart. They help people feel confident in choosing you — whether as a coach, speaker, or consultant.

So, if you’re ever considering entering, I encourage you to do it. Not just for the shiny badge — but for the deep understanding, pride, and joy it can spark.

To those who have supported me over the years — my clients, peers, collaborators, and friends — thank you. You’re the reason I keep showing up.

And if you’d like to support me in this next chapter, I’d truly appreciate your vote in the Local Business Awards. Just scan the QR code below or click here to vote — and remember to confirm your vote via email.
