ANZAC Day in Charters Towers gave me a powerful reminder of what the freedom to travel truly means and why honouring our fallen soldiers matters more than we realise.
This year, as I continued my journey through outback Queensland, ANZAC Day carried a deeper meaning.
I’d mapped out this nine-month adventure carefully, but one thing I was certain about from the start was that I wanted to spend ANZAC Day in a country town — a place where community spirit is strong, traditions are honoured, and gratitude feels woven into the red dirt.
My travels had already taken me through Roma for the Country Easter Festival, into the breathtaking stillness of Carnarvon Gorge, past the warm artesian waters of Lara Wetlands, and through hidden off-grid gems I never knew existed.
Each stop offered something special. But Charters Towers… that was different.
Standing alongside locals at dawn, I felt the weight of the moment.
The silence, the pride, and the deep respect for those who sacrificed their lives so we could enjoy the freedom we often take for granted.
- The freedom to build a lifestyle business.
- The freedom to explore Australia.
- The freedom to live life on our own terms.
Travel isn’t just about kilometres and campsites.
It’s about connection to history, to people, and to the land we’re lucky enough to call home.
If you’re planning your own lap of Australia, love discovering new camping locations, or simply want to follow along with the journey, I’d love to share more with you.
