What difference should it make to your business whether you are happy or not?
Tons!
I regularly see people in my coaching practice who are miserable and don’t know how to find happiness. Many are looking forward at a time in the future they will be happy. When they make the next sale, when they get more clients, when they meet the right person, when they make (or win) a million dollars, when they retire etc.
As I work with these people they soon realise they don’t have to wait to be happy. They quickly understand they can actually be happy for no reason NOW, if they choose to be.
You have probably realised by now the vast majority of your thoughts are pure nonsense? You may be dwelling on a past that can’t be changed or obsessing about mistakes you haven’t made yet? Constantly drifting into fantasy and negativity. You aren’t alone in your worry. Most people do it.
Author and sales coach, Tom Hopkins declared. “Being miserable is a habit; being happy is a habit; the choice is yours.”
So what are you choosing on a daily basis?
To be happy for no reason, I’ve learnt to…
- Disregard the all or nothing thinking
- Focus my light on the positive things in life
- Eliminate the SHOULD statements
- Move the body daily
- Sleep well
- Spend more time with family & friends
- Get outside more (often when I’m moving the body)
- Help others
- Smile often
- Plan holidays
- Meditate regularly
- Practice Gratitude
I read this a while ago and the good news is, getting older will actually make you happier.
As we get older, particularly past middle age, the studies show that we tend to naturally get happier. Not that we want to wait till then though.
Researchers believe that as people age they seek out situations that will lift their moods, for instance, pruning social circles of friends or acquaintances who might bring them down. Still, other studies have found that older adults learn to let go of loss and disappointment over unachieved goals, and focus their goals on greater wellbeing.
So if you thought getting old will make you miserable, it’s likely you’ll develop a more positive outlook than you probably have now. But don’t wait till then. Be happier NOW because you can.
Remember…
- To be optimistic
- To be yourself
- To smile
Best wishes till next time.
