Discovering your why through your values is the key to living a life of authenticity and choice. When you take the time to understand what truly matters to you, decision-making becomes easier, relationships deepen, and your purpose shines through.
Your Why is Waiting – Do You Know What Drives You?
For me, adventure and curiosity are two values that guide everything from the way I travel to the way I work — and they form a big part of my own why.
I’m currently taking time out in my caravan, exploring off-the-grid locations and chasing the next adventure.
Here’s the thing: when we know our values, we know our why.
And when we know our why, we stop living by default and start living by choice.
As author Simon Sinek reminds us:
“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.”
So how do you uncover your own values and why?
Here are three tips:
3 Tips to Discover Your Why Through Your Values
- Notice your non-negotiables – What situations make you uncomfortable or frustrated? Often, these highlight when a core value is being ignored.
- Reflect on your joy – Think about the moments when you felt alive and fulfilled. What values were present in those experiences?
- Ask why, five times – Choose an aspect of your life or work you care about. Ask yourself “why does this matter to me?” five times to drill down to the real essence.
When you live aligned with your values, everything feels more authentic. You make choices that match who you truly are, not who others expect you to be.
That’s why I run my Storytelling Workshop for business owners.
To help you dig into your essence and share your why story in a way that builds trust, connection, and influence.
If you’ve ever struggled to put your passion into words, this workshop is for you.
